Here is an example of a grocery list I recently bought at Wal-mart. I happen to live by myself finishing up my undergraduate degree. So like many of you I don’t have all the time in the world to sit and cook for every meal. So what I like to do is cook very simple recipes and have left overs for meals later in the week. I also am on a budget so I try and keep my groceries as cheap as possible.
First thing I do when I get to Wal-Mart is go through the produce section. I get all my fruit that I am going to need for that week. This mainly consists of bananas for my protein shakes and then some apples for snacks. I also get quite a bit of mushrooms for my egg whites in the morning. Then I move over to the meat and poultry. I tend to go for the great value brand for my chicken. I buy a lot of chicken so I will normally get two bags. Then I might get some steak and a bag of frozen tilapia.

Whether preparing for the club championship or the US Open, a “healthy” diet and body can clearly contribute to a player’s quest to reach peak performance. In short, what’s good for health is also generally good for tennis. A player’s overall dietary needs on and off the court are typically pretty straightforward. Unfortunately, some players will focus on trying the latest fad in nutritional supplements, using the rationale “this must be what I’m missing!” With all of this information, nutrition for tennis can become more than a little confusing. Dietary strategies should be adjusted for such factors as a player’s age, fitness, level of competition, intensity of play, environment, time of competition, duration of play, amount of time between matches, as well as many others. From a nutritional standpoint, preparing for a tournament match is further challenged by the unpredictability of getting on the court; a match that is supposed to start at 11 a.m. may not actually begin until 1:30. This raises questions like, “Should that player now have lunch or not?” and “What types of foods should the player consume during the delay to remain ‘peaked’ for competition?”

A wealth of comprehensive information on diet and nutrition as they relate to a healthy lifestyle can be readily found from organizations such as the American Dietetic Association (www.eatright.org) and the American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org). Because of this ready supply of information, this competency will not focus on general nutrition guidelines to eating for good health, but instead will look at basic nutrition principles and other current nutritional issues as they relate to, and impact, tennis performance. The following information on match preparation, play and recovery is also generally appropriate for on-court training and practice; players should therefore incorporate many of the following suggestions into their training and practice routines, as well.
Nutrition for everyone is important however, for the endurance athlete it is critical. We commonly see athletes drinking Electrolyte drinks which help replace vital fluids and also helps the athlete prepare for the next training session. To aid in the recovery time athletes need all the help they can get, it is well documented on the importance of antioxidants in a post workout situation. Vemma /Verve can and does provide all the essential liquid minerals in an ionic liquid form that the body is able to utilize immediately to help replace those missing electrolytes and offset the production of free radicals for the athlete. This great tasting drink is suitable for both the athlete and all you weekend warriors.
I am an athlete, I played D1 Tennis @ Notre dame so I know the importance of sports nutrition first hand. My mission is to help spread the word about this amazing liquid nutritional discovery. It is the best supplement I have found, and I have seen such great results with energy levels, recovery rate, lowered inflammation, and better hydration just to name a few.
As well all know sports nutrition plays an important role in your personal success. As a former college athlete my brother and I understood what we needed to put in our body to allow our muscles to get the proper energy. As a tennis player we were loading up on pasta and healthy carbs along with high protein foods.
The problem I have and I know a lot of other people have is consistently feeding our body with the proper nutrients so that we can perform at our best ability. Everyone is different, no doubt about it, so that’s why you need to understand how your body works. Do you have trouble digesting food? Do you tend to eat too much before a competition? Do you eat too little and find yourself dogging during an event? These are all questions you must answer to better understand your body.
